Marrying Indonesian

That Indonesians are known for their kindness and friendliness might interest you to marry an Indonesian.

Basic Requirements

Marrying an Indonesian is more or less similar with the procedure in marrying one from other countries. Here are three standard requirements that you should meet.

#1 Parental Consent

In marrying Indonesian, the first rule that you have to fulfill is the parental consent. It is different with the rules in some other western countries, of not all, that marrying one can be from two-party agreement. In Indonesia, you should let his or her parents know that you will marry their daughter.

This is the convention, the rule which is not written but is agreed, that you have to know. Marrying (especially a girl) someone without parental concent will lead you to a big problem.

#2 Religion

In marrying someone, you should be in the same religion. If you are christian and you want to marry non-christian, the situation will force you to forget your plan. Based on the applicable law in Indonesia, you can only marry someone who of your own faith.

#3 Religious Affair Office

After fulfilling the previous two requirements, then you can register your wedding plan in Religious Affair Office (Kantor Urusan Agama - KUA). Your data will be captured and the representatives will come to your wedding to witness your marriage.

Those are the standard procedures. However, if you are non-Indonesian who want to marry Indonesian, you should meet some additional points.
